A Critical Analysis of Workflow Patterns

چکیده

We report work in progress about a critical analysis of the 43 workflow patterns recently presented by the Business Process Modeling Center in [14]. We disambiguate the natural language pattern descriptions given there, complete them by explicitly addressing relevant features that were left open in [14], and replace the Petri net formalizations, provided there to further illustrate the patterns, by truly abstract yet rigorous models, avoiding to introduce details that pertain only to the description framework and not to the problems addressed by the patterns. We identify parameters which turn numerous of the analyzed workflow patterns into instances of one main pattern, thus streamlining the pattern classification proposed in [14].

Towards a WPSL : a critical analysis of the 20 classical workflow control-flow patterns

In 2000, after a comprehensive survey of tools and techniques for workflow management, 20 control-flow patterns were identified [5] and made these available through www.workflowpatterns.com. Since then, many commercial and academic workflow management systems have been evaluated using these patterns. Moreover, standards such as BPEL and XPDL have been evaluated and these evaluations have trigge...

Integrated visual analysis of patterns in time series and text data - Workflow and application to financial data analysis

In this article, we describe a workflow and tool that allows a flexible formation of hypotheses about text features and their combinations, which are significantly connected in time to quantitative phenomena observed in stock data. To support such an analysis, we combine the analysis steps of frequent quantitative and text-oriented data using an existing a priori method. First, based on heurist...

Extraction and Comparison of the Discharge Process in a Teaching Hospital

Background and Objectives: Patient discharge process starts from the point of the initial order of the physician order and continues to the discharge time of a patient and the release of the bed that was allocated to him/her. Lengthening the patient discharge process is regarded as a negative factor in the management of beds; this lengthy process leads to delay...

Finite Element Analysis of Buckling of Thin Cylindrical Shell Subjected to Uniform External Pressure

One of the common failure modes of thin cylindrical shell subjected external pressure is buckling. The buckling pressure of these shell structures are dominantly affected by the geometrical imperfections present in the cylindrical shell which are very difficult to alleviate during manufacturing process. In this work, only three types of geometrical imperfection patterns are considered namely (a...

SPOT PATTERNS IN GRAY SCOTT MODEL WITH APPLICATION TO EPIDEMIC CONTROL

In this work, we analyse a pair of two-dimensional coupled reaction-diusion equations known as the Gray-Scott model, in which spot patterns have been observed. We focus on stationary patterns, and begin by deriving the asymptotic scaling of the parameters and variables necessary for the analysis of these patterns. A complete bifurcation study of these solutions is presented. The main mathematic...
